Hey, you all! We’re Ameerah and Lara, your new Deputy Editor and Editor-in-Chief! We are super excited to announce that applications for the PEACH Committee 2020/21 are officially open! Last year, PEACH managed to revive itself against all odds. This year, we want it to thrive! We are hoping to make this PEACH’s biggest and best year yet and we need you to do that! Our first step in doing this is to assemble a great committee. Here are the briefs for all open roles:
x1 Assistant Editor:
As a member of our Editing Team, you will be essential to the development of PEACH as a publication. Together with the rest of the editing team, your responsibilities will include everything that goes into planning, managing and producing our publication. This includes everything from submission curation to the actual development and creation of the physical publication. You need to have an eye for talent and be able to spot brilliant work across different arts (writing, visual arts, etc.). As a plus, you may have experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically InDesign and Photoshop) and other magazine or creative experience, but these aren’t essential!
x1 Art Editor:
As a member of our Editing Team, you will be essential to the development and maintenance of the PEACH aesthetic. Your responsibilities will include everything that goes into planning, managing and producing the look, design and feel of PEACH. This includes everything from magazine visuals (cover art included), to submission curation, to PEACH’s look beyond the magazine. If it has to do with the PEACH aesthetic, then it has to do with you! It will be your job to develop the aesthetic of PEACH so that it stands out as the unique and brilliant Student Medium that it is. We, therefore, ask that you have experience with creative software and a portfolio of previous work. Please attach your portfolio to your application.
x2 Events Producers:
As members of our Events Team, it will be your job to develop, organise and hold PEACH events both on- and offline. You will be responsible for organising everything from open mic nights, to magazine launches, to gallery events and more! Due to the pandemic, we will be relying greatly on remote events to make sure that PEACH remains a community. It is, therefore, important that you have great organisational skills, a creative mind, and a firm grasp on video communication programs (such as Zoom). One of the great things about PEACH is the regular events that we host, and we don’t want that to slow down just because they need to be remote. PEACH isn’t just a magazine, it’s a society! It’ll be your job to ensure that we establish and maintain that feeling of community. We want this to be PEACH’s best year yet, and the Events Team is key to ensuring that we have the traction to do so. Although not essential, experience in event planning is ideal, especially if you’ve previously worked with other societies. Because there will be two of you, then do feel free to apply as a pair (you can, of course, also apply alone)!
x1 Workshop Leader:
Our creative workshops are a PEACH staple and, therefore, deserve a whole role of their own. These themed workshops are vital spaces that bring PEACH members together via creation and expression. They are and always have been our most successful events (no pressure!). As a member of our Events Team, it will be your job to plan, manage and host a new workshop every month (at least). This role requires confidence, creativity and great organisational skills. Also, due to the pandemic, we will be relying on remote workshops just as much (if not more than) in-person ones. It will be your job to take that sense of community that is key to our in-person workshops and recreate it online. It is, therefore, important that you have a firm grasp on video communication programs (such as Zoom). You will be working closely with the rest of the Events Team as well as the Marketing and Communications Team to ensure that your workshops gain the traction they need to be successful. Experience within event planning/hosting would be great but isn’t essential!
x2 Marketing Officers:
As members of our Marketing and Communications Team, it will be your job to ensure that PEACH develops and maintains a growing presence on campus, both on and off social media. You will be in charge of our socials and our blog, as well as ensuring PEACH’s physical presence on campus. The ability to create and curate content that is both fresh, engaging and aesthetic is key. You will need to keep the current PEACH audience engaged while striving to consistently bring in new members, followers, etc. You will be working closely with the entire team but may stay particularly close to the Events Team to ensure that the word on events, workshops, etc. is being adequately spread. You will also work closely with the Art Editor to ensure that you are developing graphics, posts, etc. that align with the PEACH aesthetic. Now more than ever, we will be relying on our Marketing and Communications Team to keep our lovely Peaches engaged and happy! Experience is, therefore, ideal, but not essential. If you do have past experience, then attach examples alongside your application. Because there will be two of you, then do feel free to apply as a pair (you can, of course, also apply alone)!
Lastly, we just wanted to add that developing a magazine is a team effort and we will be relying on the entirety of the PEACH Team to collaborate synergetically to achieve our goals – meaning that it is essential that we all work well as part of a team. Here is how you go about applying:
- Send an email to email@example.com with the subject line ‘Peach Committee 2020/21 Application’
- Choose the two roles that you are most interested in filling and rank them by preference using 1 and 2 (e.g. 1 – Marketing Officer | 2 – Events Producer). Please state the roles you are applying for at the beginning of your email.
- Then write a summary (preferably under 250 words) detailing why you want to be a part of the team, what you think you could bring to both PEACH and the roles you are applying for, any experience you have, and anything else you think it may be good for us to know!
- If you have any examples of work you would like us to see, then don’t forget to attach that as well!
The deadline for all applications is 31 July 2020 at 11.59 pm.
All QMUL students and prospective QMUL students across all levels of education are welcome to apply. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to write us via the PEACH email! We are so excited to read your applications and get PEACH started! Good luck!
