Introducing: Decolonise Your Bookshelf
As a part of our mission to crack open the arts, PEACH has dedicated itself to decolonising our approach to literature. To support this work and encourage our readers, members, and followers to do the same, we have developed Decolonise Your Bookshelf. Decolonise Your Bookshelf isn’t just about diversifying your bookshelf, it is about actively seeking to centre people of colour – particularly Black and Indigenous POC – within literature by disrupting systems that keep the literary world entangled in whiteness.
As a means of doing this, we have developed an ever-growing list of literature written by and centred on people of colour. In honour of UK Black History Month, we will be solely focusing on Black writers, authors, and poets for the month of October. You can find our non-exhaustive list of Black literature here.
To aid this, we have also provided a non-exhaustive list of Black-owned bookshops, book sellers, and publishing companies. All companies listed are UK-based for now but we will be expanding this as time goes on. We ask that all of our lovely Peaches take full advantage of the list and buy Black when they can. You can find the list of Black-owned bookshops, sellers, and publishing companies here.
