About FriDgid

FriDgid is a story about a toxic family, about control and freedom, in the heart of every home – the kitchen.

frigid + rigid + fridge = FRIDGID

The refrigerator, always in the frame, is the centrepiece home appliance that serves to conserve in coldness, preventing change. Such is the character of the Father: rigid, fearful and cold, fearing change, thus making him controlling and toxic for his loved ones. This is a story about love and that often when we think we do good, we end up causing damage. In the end, it doesn’t matter. People leave and what is left is bitterness and regret.

FriDgid has recently received international recognition by through multiple awarding bodies, including but not limited to:

Indie Shorts Awards Cannes – Selected

Golden Short Film Festival – Finalist / category ‘Golden Short Film’

ARFF – Amsterdam // International Awards – Audience Award

ISAFF – International Symbolic Art Film Festival / Saint Petersberg  – Selected for categories: Best No-Dialogue Film, Best Original Score, Best Short Film

Andrew Atha says about FriDgid:

FriDgid is beautiful. Your focus is comfortably restrained to the perspective of an everyday kitchen appliance that sees the best and worst of family life. You squint your eyes to watch for the minutest of details to try and pick apart what’s significant as a jar of chocolate spread or crayon drawing may be as important as the characters ageing before you. In a short film without words, you’re left to make your own conclusions on love, family, grief and shame. It’s a journey of twenty minutes spanning a lifetime and a fresh, enticing watch for anyone.
